Poker Vs. Roulette

Are you likely to find poker players crowded around the roulette table? Sure. Are those players treating roulette with the same seriousness that they approach poker? Unlikely.

Can online roulette players enjoy poker? Definitely. Will they enjoy better results at the poker table than they did at the roulette wheel? Not necessarily.

Poker Players and Roulette

Poker players understand that roulette is a game of chance. When a player is sitting at the poker table, he is constantly calculating odds, assessing his opponents and constructing poker strategies.

He knows when he comes to the roulette table what the odds are against him instantly. He knows he will lose in the long run, but he does not care. He is there to use some of his poker winnings to blow off some steam and get some entertainment value. If he should hit a winner, it is a bonus.

Roulette Players and Poker

People who classify themselves as “roulette players” fall into two categories. The first are recreational players like the poker players mentioned above. They know the odds are against them, but love to play roulette and so hit the roulette table every time they have the opportunity.

Other roulette players somehow think they have a “system” to beat the game. No known system can beat a fair roulette wheel, so these players are doomed to failure. If they take their approach to the poker table, they are likely to put their confidence in other systems that don’t work and fail there too.

Playing Roulette or Poker

There’s no reason poker players shouldn’t enjoy roulette or roulette players shouldn’t enjoy poker. However, poker players who come to the roulette table need to keep in mind that they can’t get an edge on this game the same as in poker, and that in the long run they can expect to lose.

Roulette players who try their hands at poker need to realize it is a strategy game that gives the edge to better players. Unless they learn the skills required to play poker well, they could incur serious losses.
